Muddy Waters

Thank you Lisa Michaels with Atlanta Entrepreneur Social for allowing me to use snippets from her Facebook post today as inspiration for this.

While the context of money was her focus from pp.206-208 in the chapter “Understanding: The Deep Heart’s Core” from George Kinder’s book Money Maturity…..for me, its words hit home on a much deeper personal level regarding where I find myself in my journey.

“First two lines are from the Tao Te Ching…

Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?

Can you remain unmoving till the right action arises by itself?

The practice of letting thoughts GO and feelings BE focuses on being present and welcoming all things. Lisa states, “I don’t know about you but learning to embrace some of my feelings about my journey with money has been challenging. Yet each time I do, a deep shift occurs. I’ve worked to embrace shame, guilt, embarrassment, frustration, and compulsion. They have often sat beside gratitude and grace but allowing the more challenging emotions to be embraced has brought many insights.”

My takeaway

I turn 50 this year and trust me when I say the waters were muddied for nearly a decade in my 40s. I am just now learning to let go of the harsh, critical self-judgement, the bitterness, the anger, the comparison, the unforgiveness.

I am just now learning how to BE with my feelings and to practice kindness to myself! It’s not an easy task, but a necessary one.

So, as you gaze on the pic above, if your pond looks more muddy than clear, embrace hope! Blue skies will emerge and begin to clear all the murkiness away.
