2020 Election Thoughts

If you’re reading this, you may or may not know me personally. Probably a friend of your friend knows me and that’s why we’re connected in the digital world. Others of you know the good, bad, and ugly of my life and still choose to stay ❤🤗

No matter how we ended up here, you MATTER to me. Ask anyone who knows me well, and they’ll tell you I run with all walks of life, political ideologies, and religious bents. I promise if you put my entire circle of friends in the same room, the opinions would clash at the loudest of decibels 🤣

There’s something I want each of you to know. Your opinions, experiences, belief systems, thoughts, and feelings are close to my heart, even when they are violently different from mine.

While I won’t disclose how I voted this year, what I will say is I’m for life and liberty however you choose to live that out. I don’t identify with socialism or authoritarianism or fascism or any of the other isms each side vehemently accuses the other of.

Unfortunately what many have taught me this year is that if someone disagrees with your point of view, you take personal offense to it and look down on that person as if they owed you something. Some have taught me that if someone doesn’t align with you in your politics, you’ll unfriend and belittle and place them in the “untouchable” box. I didn’t realize our men and women fought brutal wars to give you THAT right, and I wonder if they could see us now and know then where we’d end up, would they have made the same choice 🤷‍♀️

But I suppose it IS your right because when we give freedom to choose, we must always be willing to live with the consequence whether good or bad.

I’m saddened by the division. I’m more saddened you’ve allowed your family and life long friends to become as if they meant nothing to you. For me, while I place healthy boundaries in my friendships, I never want to pass by on the other side when I see a fellow human hurting. Has the Good Samaritan disappeared in most of us?

Have we replaced reality with that of our online world where everything is really just smoke and mirrors?

Today, I choose to just live this American life as best I can no matter what the future holds. We all have a choice to be led or to lead. Which will you choose?

What do you think?
